New Work for 2012

I finally manged to get it together after moving out of the Japan House studio; here's a couple of brand new pieces for a brand new year.

Wolf Book

These are from a new drawing book I got which seems to be a kind of miniature Elysian Fields, where nothing I do goes wrong (and that should jinx it.) I'm calling it the Wolf Book, and I've got a plan: Within this book I'm going to, among other things, do a complete visual re-interpretation of Neil Gaiman's original Sandman story arc. I think I'll skip the one-off stories he punctuated the series with and stick to the contemporary arc. I don't have permission to do this, and I consider it a personal art project (I love those stories, but have always bee driven crazy by the inconsistency of the artwork), but it would be cool if Gaiman caught wind of it and was down. I should note that the pictures here aren't really all that indicative of the stylistic approach I plan to take; they're pretty graphic, and I do want to rule out naturalistic rendering. We'll see how this develops.

These are images from one of the improvisational picture-books I like to do. This story isn't complete (come to think of it, they never seem to be), but I really like what's there so far.

Bus Shelter Murals, Painting Against Homelessness, Sisyphus Adventure, and More...

A whole bunch of stuff to post --- it's been a while, as I've been working the graveyard shift at the shelter, and making work the rest of the time. Here's a bunch of what's been happening:


First, I finished up a cycle of murals for bus shelters in the North end of Seattle; here's a sampling:















Seattle's redoubtable weekly The Stranger each Autumn gives over an issue to offer for auction donated goods and services to benefit a non-profit social service in our community. This year they chose the organization with whom I am employed, and I thought it only right to throw in; here's the piece:

Monster Night!

This is one of a new bunch of Halloween pictures I've been working on. Originally, I was going to do just the one --- family had been asking me to do one for a long time. It turned out so well, and so fun to do, that I kept going. I'm hoping that they may turn into a book, but in the meeantime, I'm looking into a limited-run print of one or two.
